22 Oct King Me! MLB Triple Crown Winners and Their Other Crowns
In Major League Baseball, the Batting Triple Crown refers to a batter who leads either the National League or American League in 3 specific categories: Batting Average, Home Runs and Runs Batted In. Miguel Cabrera recently accomplished this feat, which is the first time since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers joined an elite group of eight Hall of Famers who have accomplished the Triple Crown in the American League. This list includes Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Ted Williams, and Mickey Mantle. What do all these men have in common besides the Triple Crown? A winning smile! But there may be another type of crown involved that keeps their teeth looking so great.
Dental crowns are a “cap” placed over the top of the original tooth to cover it. They can be used for the following reasons:
- To protect a weak tooth
- To restore an already broken tooth
- To cover and support a damaged or discolored tooth
- To hold a dental bridge in place
- To make a cosmetic modification
Crowns are very common among professional athletes, especially for those in high-risk sports, like baseball. They may get hit in the face with a ball or bat, or even run into another player. So if this happens to you, a visit to the dentist and you won’t even be able to tell that a tooth was damaged. If you ever find yourself missing part of a tooth, don’t panic. Your dentist can crown you and all of a sudden, you’re royalty!
So, the next time you are watching an interview with your favorite player on ESPN, keep in mind, he may have more than one type of crown.
