The fear of having something stuck in your teeth is probably something that we all have felt, at least once in our life. Speaking to someone with a piece of broccoli stuck in your teeth is embarrassing, especially if you are about to be on camera! We know that this time of year is filled with photographs as you try to capture the memories and cherish the time spent with family and friends. Nobody wants the food lurking on your teeth to make an unwanted photo bomb!
Luckily there are ways to keep your teeth and mouth clean in between meals. Follow these helpful tips to help improve the health of your mouth and keep your pearly whites sparkling.
• If possible, carry a small travel kit in your bag or purse that contains a travel toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash. Everything you need to keep your mouth fresh and clean.
• If you have a toothbrush on you, but no toothpaste, you can gently “dry” brush your teeth. This means you don’t use any toothpaste, just water to clean out your mouth.
• If you have toothpaste, but no toothbrush, you can use your finger (make sure it’s clean!) or a paper towel as a substitute for your toothbrush. Make sure you rinse thoroughly when done.
• If flossing is difficult to manage, there are inter-dental brushes available for purchase that can be used to remove plaque and food particles from your teeth effectively.
• Drink a glass of water after you eat. Drinking water will not only keep you hydrated and your skin looking great, but it also helps wash away any food particles left on your teeth.
• Drink a glass of green tea as a substitute for water to wash away food particles. Just make sure you avoid using sugar. Green tea contains antioxidants that can help fight gum disease and inflammation.
• Chew on a piece of chewing gum for at least 5 minutes after eating. Chewing for this amount of time will stimulate the production of saliva, which is an effective way to wash away plaque and food particles. Just make sure the gum doesn’t contain any artificial sweeteners.
• Limit your snacking between meals. If you must snack, go for foods that don’t contain a lot of sugar and avoid sucking on hard sweets and drinking soda.
