09 Feb Going Somewhere? Keep These Dental Travel Tips in Mind
While packing for the exciting vacation you’ve planned months in advance it’s easy to get carried away and forget all about your dental health. Clothes, shoes, accessories, beauty products, phone, camera, headphones…? Check! How about your toothbrush? Oh! And the dental appointment you should’ve scheduled before leaving? “Oops!” moment like this happens to everyone. That’s why we created this dental travel tips list, so you can stay on top of your dental health game.
1. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
Make an appointment for a dental check-up! It’s very crucial, especially if you’re experiencing pain but think it’ll go away on its own. It’s going to be very challenging for you to get doctor recommendations in a foreign country. Most importantly, if you had fillings or any sort of restorative treatment on your teeth, the air trapped in your tooth can contract or expand depending on the altitude, thus causing major discomfort and loose fillings and crowns. If you’re scuba diving on vacation, you’re risking experiencing “tooth squeeze” or “barodontalgia.”
2. TRAVEL-SIZE DENTAL PRODUCTS
It is very important that you remember to pack your toothbrush, dental floss and your travel-size toothpaste and mouthwash in your carry-on. This way you can take proper dental care steps while flying. Your oral hygiene doesn’t have to suffer. In case you’ve forgotten to pack up these essentials, try rinsing your mouth with water to wash away some of the bacteria. In case you can borrow some toothpaste, use your clean finger or a washcloth to clean your teeth. It is important to stick to your routine even in situations when it seems unachievable. If there is a will, there is a way.
3. WHILE ON VACATION
If you’re in a country where there’s a limited access to clean water or you’re somewhere in a remote location, make sure to brush your teeth with bottled water. Don’t use local water source. Additionally, bring sugarless gum. It will relieve ear pressure while flying and keep the cavities away!
