30 Aug How to Soothe a Teething Baby at Night
Are you trying to figure out how to soothe a teething baby at night? Look no further, we got you covered. Teething is such a painful process that can keep both the parents and the baby up at night. Drooling, tears and frustration are just some of the tell-tale signs that your baby is teething. Luckily, there are a lot of things you can do to help your teething baby.
1. Rub the gums.
Use a clean finger or damp cloth to rub baby’s gums. The pressure alleivates discomfort at least temporarily. What you’re also going to notice, naturally, is that your teething baby will keep the fingers or the whole fist in the mouth as a form of comfort. Just one teething give-away to look out for.
2. Cold objects.
Cold cloth, teething ring or spoon can help with discomfort. Make sure all items are chilled, not frozen. Especially the teething ring.
3. Deal with the drool.
A teething baby drools a lot. Make sure to use a sterile cloth to wipe off the drool very gently. Follow up with a moisturizer to make sure that baby’s skin doesn’t get irritated. As a precaution or in case the skin gets irritated, make sure to apply a water-based lotion to restore the natural balance of baby’s skin.
4. Solid food for the win.
Try using a peeled and chilled cucumber or carrot and give it your baby to chew on. Keep an eye on the baby, just in case any pieces break off because these pose a choking hazard.
5. Over-the-counter help.
You might want to try some over-the-counter remedies such as Tylenol, Advil, Children’s Motrin etc., to help with the pain. Avoid teething medications that contain pain reliever benzocaine or lidocaine, because these can be harmful if not even fatal for the baby. Whatever you do, please make an educated choice when purchasing any pain relievers, since baby’s are sensitive to certain medications.
