MARK J. GROSS, DDS has been practicing cosmetic and family dentistry since he graduated from the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1980. In 1981, he completed a residency in general dentistry at The Mount Sinai Hospital and was appointed to the medical center’s attending staff. In 1983 he became coordinator (with Dr. Kaplan) of the Department of Dentistry. Dr. Gross left Mount Sinai in order to devote more time to his practice and was appointed director of Gramercy Park Health Associates, a medical/dental group practice. A resident of the West Side, Dr. Gross and his wife, Rikki, have three married children with three grandchildren and a fourth on its way. He loves to travel and enjoys tennis and skiing. Dr. Gross focuses on large restorative and cosmetic cases and has developed an international patient base. Working together with staff specialists and lab ceramists, Dr. Gross can usually accommodate his patients’ timetables and expedite treatment. Meet Our Dentists
ANDREW S. KAPLAN, DMD received his dental degree from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1980, and has worked as a general dentist ever since. After completing a residency in general dentistry at The Mount Sinai Hospital, he became coordinator of the Department of Dentistry, a position he held for 13 years. He also was a co-founder of the medical center’s Dental Phobia Clinic and was Director of the Temporomandibular Disorders/Facial Pain Clinic. Dr. Kaplan is an associate clinical professor of the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and a lecturer for The Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Dentistry. He has also held faculty positions at the New York University College of Dentistry, the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery, and the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Kaplan is a past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. He is widely published and has authored several books on Orofacial Pain and Temporomandibular Disorders. Many physicians and other dentists refer their TMJ, headache, facial pain and dental sleep apnea patients to Dr. Kaplan. Dr. Kaplan is married, has three children and lives in the upper east side of Manhattan. He enjoys travel, tennis and golf.
HISTORY
Dr. Gross and Dr. Kaplan met in 1980 at The Mount Sinai Hospital Dental Residency Program in New York City. Soon after, they became coordinators of the Mount Sinai Department of Dentistry, and in 1984 began a private dental practice on the Upper East Side.
Dr. Gross and Dr. Kaplan built their practice on the Upper East Side and, in 1995, moved into the current offices just off Fifth Avenue. Dr. Gross and Dr. Kaplan continue to offer patients expert dental care and a variety of specialized services.

A Note About The Doctors…
On May 9, 2013, Dr. Mark Gross and Dr. Andrew Kaplan began showcasing original artwork by their patients, to benefit children in need of dental care worldwide. A percentage of the art purchased at these showcases are donated to Operation Smile and Dental Volunteers for Israel (DVI).
Dr. Mark Gross and Dr. Andrew Kaplan both graduated dental school in 1980, and have been partners for over thirty years. They began their partnership by coordinating the Mount Sinai Hospital’s Dental Department, and then joined together in private practice. They believe that dentistry is not just a science, but an art, and strive to achieve not only the optimum health of each patient, but the aesthetic beauty of their smile. Their love of art has inspired them to blanket their office walls with original art and sculpture.
Their love of dentistry and art has motivated them to begin the series of art exhibits to help those who are less fortunate. Our exhibiting artists have graciously agreed that a portion of the proceeds of the art will be donated directly to charity. Is there anything more beautiful, inspirational and mystical than a child’s smile?
There are millions of children that have never smiled, laughed, or for that matter eaten a meal without being in pain. It is those children the Dental Partners of 5th Avenue seek to help. They have chosen two charities dedicated to help children smile again. Operation Smile assists those with cleft lips and palates, while Dental Volunteers of Israel treats impoverished children regardless of religion or nationality. Dr. Gross and Dr. Kaplan invite everyone to stop by the office, and be inspired to help these children.
Supporting these two institutions will not only help thousands of children to smile, it will keep Dr. Gross, Dr. Kaplan and anyone who steps inside the Dental Partners of 5th Avenue office smiling for a long time.
