Your teeth play a crucial role in your life. Not only do they impact your appearance, but they also help you talk and chew. Life would be tough without teeth, so you want to ensure you are taking care of your smile. Having a healthy smile is something that everyone should invest in, and the first step is learning some of the dos and don’ts of dental care.
How you treat your teeth and what you eat both have an impact on the health of your teeth. Keep your pearly whites healthy for the long run by following these healthy dental tips.
• The two most crucial times to brush your teeth is first thing in the morning and right before bed at night.
• To prevent the transference of bacteria back into your mouth, make sure you change the head of your electric toothbrush or chuck your toothbrush every two to three months.
• If you don’t own a tongue scraper, get one and use it every time you brush your teeth. Bacteria and tongue plaque builds up on your tongue, and this can affect your breath in a bad way.
• Eat foods that are crisp or firm during the day while you are in between your daily “brushes.” Food choices such as apples, popcorn, celery, and carrots can help keep your teeth clean.
• You do not want to brush your teeth immediately after eating or drinking. Some of your choices may be acidic, which can make your teeth more susceptible to abrasion.
• To help ensure you have healthy saliva, teeth, and gums make sure you are eating a healthy, well-balanced diet.
• If you must eat acidic and sugary foods and drinks, then do so with meals. Do not snack on these foods.
• Good, teeth healthy choices for snacks include cheese, vegetables, and nuts.
• Be careful with what you drink, and try to limit or avoid acidic and staining drinks. Acidic drinks such as sports drinks and soda can cause tooth decay, while coffee and tea can stain your teeth.
• If you are suffering from “dry mouth” because of prescribed medications, be sure to talk to your dentist. You need help coming up with a plan to keep your mouth moist.
